Tuen Teens, Issue 5

Dear Parents, Students, Teachers, and Friends of TMCSS,

Welcome to the fifth issue of Tuen Teens. As I read through these pages, I am deeply moved by the vibrant energy of the Tuenteenian family. TMCSS has always been committed to nurturing students who embody Compassionate Excellence. We aspire for every student to possess the intellectual rigour of a dedicated scholar, the ability to harness and apply new technologies, and at the same time, a tender and perceptive heart that reaches out to those in need. Excellence and compassion are never in opposition — they are deeply intertwined. We firmly believe that true achievement is not measured solely by grades and accolades, but by the breadth of heart and sense of responsibility one brings to the world.

We live in a new era of artificial intelligence, where technology is reshaping the world at an unprecedented pace. Yet our students have not been swept away by the tide. Instead, they have used technology as a vehicle for profound human care — turning their attention to those who are often overlooked, and seeking innovative ways to bring warmth to others. They have demonstrated their intellect in competitions and pursued academic excellence with distinction. This is Compassionate Excellence in its truest form: using knowledge to serve, and technology to love.

Compassion is rooted in a keen awareness of life around us, and in a deep sense of belonging to our culture and homeland. This year, our students embarked on a series of enriching study tours, travelling as far as Italy and Germany, and venturing into the historic cities of Shandong and the innovation hubs of Hangzhou, our motherland. Along the way, they encountered diverse landscapes, architectural heritage, historical narratives, and cutting-edge developments — transforming textbook knowledge into lived experience. Every journey broadened their horizons; every step of the way deepened their sense of identity and their love for their country.

Life on campus has been equally rich and vibrant. Our students have showcased their talents on the artistic stage, forged their character through sport, developed a sense of national and civic responsibility, and nourished their minds through reading and meaningful exchange. What moves me most, however, are the reflections our students have written after each learning experience.

Some are profound, some heartfelt, some full of questions, and some brimming with joy — but all of them faithfully capture the thinking and transformation of every Tuenteenian along their path of growth. This willingness to pause, to look back honestly at one's own experience, and to learn from it, is the very essence of a growth mindset — and it is among the most precious qualities a Tuenteenian can possess. These reflections are not merely words; they are moving declarations of growth.

None of these achievements would have been possible without the selfless dedication of our teachers. Beyond their already demanding teaching responsibilities, they have given their all to organising activities, walking alongside students through every learning experience, and guiding them to think deeply, reflect honestly, and grow meaningfully.

Your devotion and perseverance are the greatest driving force behind TMCSS's progress.

On behalf of all our students, I extend my most heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you.

I also wish to express my sincere appreciation to all our parents for your unwavering trust and support. Your encouragement is the strongest foundation our students stand on, giving them the confidence to take risks and face challenges without fear. The partnership between home and school is one of the most beautiful hallmarks of the Tuenteenian family.

May every Tuenteenian grow into a compassionate, excellent person — carrying love for people, for society, and for the world — and step forward with confidence into a life that is truly and wonderfully their own.

With every blessing,

Principal Cheng Suk Wah

Technology Connects Two Generations

Beckon Stars

Under the inspiration and guidance of teachers Mr. Shek Kin Leung John and Mr. Wong Yuen Kong, three students from our school, Leung Lai Ying, Tse Yan Ip, and Chan Hok Yau, developed a mobile application called "Beckon Stars." The team hoped to use artificial intelligence (AI) technology to promote cross-generational communication, reduce the loneliness of the elderly, and allow them to feel the constant companionship of their families, just like the stars.

Thoughtful AI Features

To suit the daily habits and practical needs of the elderly, the students incorporated several practical AI features into Beckon Stars — making it simple for seniors while keeping families meaningfully connected.

AI Voice-to-Text

Elderly users simply record a voice message. The AI accurately transcribes it into text and automatically extracts key points into a summary — helping the busy younger generation quickly understand their loved ones' reminders and affection.

AI Personalized Image Generation

Based on the elderly's daily voice messages or life moments, the system automatically generates unique, warm, and personalized greeting cards — making it easy for seniors to share updates and adding fun to cross-generational communication.

AI Cross-generational Connection

By bridging the technology gap between generations, Beckon Stars uses AI to foster genuine emotional bonds — ensuring the elderly feel seen, heard, and accompanied by their families no matter the distance.

Grateful for Encouragement from All Sectors

In late June this year, the students, bringing along this still-exploratory project, had the honor of participating in the Jockey Club "JC GoAI" booth at the "Learning & Teaching Expo 2026" and exhibiting it at the "Hong Kong Science Fair 2026," where they were encouraged by receiving a "Merit Award."

Encouragement from a Column Article: Using Technology to Respond to the Basic Need to be "Loved"

What particularly encouraged the team was the commentary on Beckon Stars by Professor Cheng Kai Ming of the University of Hong Kong in his education review column in the Hong Kong Economic Journal (HKEJ), following student Chan Hok Yau's sharing at the AI Learning Forum. Professor Cheng noted that this group of students did not pursue becoming the next tech giants, but instead chose to address the seemingly "unsexy" yet highly concerning real-world issue of "elderly loneliness."

"You probably cannot calculate the valuation of this App... but those things you cannot calculate are the most precious."

— Professor Cheng Kai Ming, University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong Economic Journal

"Beckon Stars, calling the stars. What you are calling is not just the elderly, but also what this city is slowly forgetting—people's hearts."

The commentary praised the team for going against the grain, using AI technology—which is generally thought to cause alienation—to reconnect human relationships and respond to the basic human need of being "loved." These words deeply moved the team and made them profoundly understand that the creativity of technology does not necessarily have to change the entire world; as long as it can change the world for one elderly person and make them feel that "someone remembers them," it is already of exceptional significance.

Appointing an Elderly Care Industry Leader as a Consultant; Restarting to Strive for Perfection

Meeting Mr. Timothy Ma Kam Wah

Under the enthusiastic introduction of the School Supervisor, Dr. Chan, and Mr. Wai Chi Sing (former Managing Director of the Urban Renewal Authority and former Permanent Secretary for Development (Works)), the students had the honor of meeting with Mr. Timothy Ma Kam Wah, the Founding Executive Director of the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association.

Mr. Ma not only selflessly shared his valuable experience from the elderly care industry but also gladly agreed to serve as a consultant for the project, guiding this student team along their journey.

"Deeply aware of their limited experience, the team knows that Beckon Stars still has a long way to go before it is truly perfected."

Next Steps: Restarting with Purpose

Go into the Community

With Mr. Ma's guidance, the team ventures out to meet elderly people where they live and gather authentic perspectives.

Listen to Elderly Voices

Engage directly with more elderly individuals to understand their true needs, preferences, and daily challenges.

Revise Target Positioning & Interface

Using real feedback, the team is working hard to improve Beckon Stars' target positioning and interface design for a better user experience.

Remembering Teachers' Cultivation; Continuing to Give Back to Society with the Original Intention

The three students deeply understand that Beckon Stars could not have progressed from a preliminary concept to where it is today, gaining recognition from various sectors, purely on their own efforts. They would like to express their sincere gratitude to School Supervisor Dr. Chan, the Principal, and all teaching staff for their unfailing support and boundless encouragement. It is precisely the excellent learning environment and careful cultivation provided by the school that allowed them to bravely experiment and turn their original intention of caring for the elderly into a practical, technological solution. The team hopes that after continuous learning and refinement, Beckon Stars will better meet public expectations in the future, live up to the expectations of their teachers, and genuinely accompany elderly people in need.

Reflections on "Beckon Stars"

Three students look back on their creative journey and share their personal insights and growth.

Leung Lai Ying

This was my first time showcasing our half-year project, the "Beckon Stars" app, to the public. Initially anxious about interviews and public reception, my worries vanished once people started interacting with us. At the "JC GoAI" booth, our focus on alleviating "elderly loneliness" resonated deeply with social workers. Realizing the app’s genuine potential to impact society and even help my own grandparents brought me immense satisfaction.

Throughout the exhibition, guidance from teachers and professionals refined my presentation skills, allowing me to speak with confidence. Seeing families and elderly individuals drawn to our project was incredibly moving. One elderly lady even mentioned hoping to use the app to bond with her daughter. This genuine encouragement has deeply motivated me to continue developing "Beckon Stars."

Ultimately, this success wouldn't have been possible without the unwavering support of our Principal and teachers. Their backing allowed us to confidently present our work at both the "Learning & Teaching Expo" and the "Hong Kong Science Fair." Having our hard work recognized by the public and professionals is a true testament to their indispensable contributions.

Tse Yan Ip

I am deeply honored to have shared the "Beckon Stars" mobile app, co-designed with my classmates, at the JC GoAI programme and the Hong Kong Science Fair. The exhibition was incredibly rewarding. Not only did I hone my presentation skills, but I also gained profound insights from industry professionals that highlighted key areas for optimizing our project. Furthermore, the strong affirmation from social welfare organizations and citizens regarding the app's potential—along with their anticipation for its release—greatly boosted my confidence to continue its development.

Witnessing the public's eagerness for life-improving technological innovations deeply inspired me. Interacting with visitors made me realize that AI technology, when combined with humanistic care, can create an astonishing impact. This experience serves as a significant milestone rather than just a showcase.

Moving forward, I will translate what I have learned into concrete actions by continuously refining the technology and optimizing the product's features. I eagerly look forward to presenting a more mature version of "Beckon Stars" to the public in the near future, hoping to bring a little bit of positive change to our society.

Chan Hok Yau

As the lead developer of the project, I initially focused solely on the code I was responsible for. In the past, I learned IT skills mostly for my own convenience, and I never thought they would ever intersect with "elderly care." However, during this month or so of full-stack development, I utilized the resources provided by the school to constantly experiment, pushing over 150 versions to GitHub. This was not only a refinement of my technical skills, but it also made me suddenly realize: my programming skills can actually tangibly help those in need in society.

As an introvert, pitching to the public at the Convention Centre for several consecutive days pushed me out of my comfort zone. Most encouragingly, our work gained recognition across sectors — social workers reached out, and we received invaluable guidance from Mr. Timothy Ma Kam Wah, Founding Executive Director of the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association.

This experience made me deeply realize that the true value of technology does not lie in how "cool" it is, but in reshaping the connections between people. I am grateful for the opportunities and cultivation provided by the school and my teachers, which allowed me to not only learn technical skills but also learn how to use technology to warm people's hearts.

1
2
3
1

User

2

Commander

3

Leader

Breaking Boundaries to Reach HKU

Student Autonomy in the AI Era

July 24, 2026

Professor Cheng Kai Ming, former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong, highly praised the outstanding performance of three students from our school (Tuen Mun Catholic Secondary School) in his Education Review column in the Hong Kong Economic Journal (HKEJ)

"Let's Listen to How Students Use AI" — Professor Cheng pointed out a crucial reflection: when exploring AI, we often focus solely on how teachers can optimize teaching, but rarely do we calm down and listen to how students—the "digital natives" of the AI era—are actually using it.

As stated in the column: "AI does not automatically care for people." Yet, our students did the exact opposite—utilizing AI technology to reconnect the elderly with their families, responding to humanity's most fundamental need: to be loved.

Three Student Representatives at the HKU Forum

On June 30, led by Principal Cheng, three representatives went to the Rayson Huang Theatre at HKU for the "Whose Intelligence? Students, AI and the Future of Learning" forum, jointly organized by HKU Education Policy Unit, Ednovators, and FlipEdu.

Michael Chan

Co-developed the "Beckon Stars" App—praised for addressing elderly loneliness rather than chasing Silicon Valley startup myths or "unicorn" fantasies.

Scarlett Ng

Shared genuine perspectives on AI's role in student learning and emotional support, representing the voice of secondary school students.

Carson Chan

Engaged educational experts and the public with thoughtful reflections on how students are truly using AI in their daily studies.

Their down-to-earth approach and empathy are exactly the rarest treasures in today's technological era.

The Cognitive Leap of TMCSS Students: From Auxiliary Tools to Philosophical Reflection

This brilliant sharing showcased the trajectory of cognitive transformation experienced by the three students in the AI era—evolving from mere "users" to adept "commanders" of technology, and further elevating to "leaders" equipped with philosophical reflection:

1
2
3
1

User

Employing AI as a basic tool for learning and daily tasks

2

Commander

Directing AI with intention to build, create, and solve real-world problems

3

Leader

Reflecting philosophically on AI's impact and championing human agency

Michael Chan — Transforming into an AI Commander, Breaking Intergenerational Barriers

Michael evolved from using AI as a study tutor to becoming a "commander" — leveraging Vibe Coding to develop the "Beckon Stars" App, which bridges intergenerational gaps through shared calendars and AI-generated summaries.

Scarlett Ng — Clarifying Life Concepts, Exploring Emotional Support

Scarlett uses AI to make abstract concepts tangible and to manage financial budgets. Concerned about peers' stress, she explored AI's role in emotional support — but also recognised the risks of over-reliance. Her key insight: humans must be 'trainers,' not passive receivers, actively steering AI to serve humanity.

Carson Chan — Shattering the Walls of Knowledge, Rejecting Perfect Mediocrity

Carson calls AI a 'sledgehammer' that breaks subject silos, letting him connect fragmented knowledge across chemistry and product UX/UI. Yet he cautions that uniform use of the same AI can lead to 'perfect mediocrity.' His message: know your strengths and limits, and defend the spark of human creativity beyond big‑data averages.

"If we don't think and only ask once, humans will be hijacked by AI. If we continuously think, humans will become the masters of AI."

The outstanding performance of TMCSS students fully demonstrates our school's fruitful achievements in promoting innovative AI education. Here, we sincerely thank School Supervisor Chan for taking the time out of his busy schedule to attend the event at HKU, as well as all the parents for their full support in person. Your applause is the greatest motivation for students to continuously explore the unknown. Our school will continue to join hands with all sectors to nurture excellent AI talents equipped with humanistic care and a forward-looking vision!

Learning about each other's distinct perspectives on technology and social issues was a highly valuable takeaway from this journey."

Chan Ka Sum

Experiencing Technological Inclusivity and Staying Humble

"During the eggshell engraving experience, I deeply appreciated the charm of precision technology and inclusive design, which allows even beginners to enjoy the fruits of advanced manufacturing. While developing the voice translation system, the complexity of the large language model made me realize how profound these domestic models are. In the face of boundless technological advancements, we must forge our problem-solving resilience—crossing the river by feeling the stones—and always maintain a humble learning attitude."

Ng Chun Yin

Reflecting on AI's Social Value and HK's Education Development

"Through exchanges with mainland students, I learned that their schools already utilize AI systems to assist in grading homework and even to monitor students' mental health and provide real-time feedback. This significantly broadened my horizons. I deeply realized that AI is no longer merely a tool for solving our personal academic questions, but a technology that can tangibly support diverse societal sectors, including agriculture, industry, and assisting individuals with disabilities. This also made me reflect on the need for Hong Kong to further develop its AI applications in education and cultivate more innovative talents capable of using technology to solve real-world problems."

The students expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Principal Cheng for her strong recommendation. The learning spirit and outstanding collaborative results demonstrated by the "Tuen Teens" delegation serve as a vivid epitome of TMCSS's commitment to promoting STEAM and innovative science education. This invaluable experience will continue to resonate within the school, inspiring more students to proactively apply technology and innovative thinking to solve societal problems.

Leveling Up Digital Literacy

Insights from Cybersecurity CTFs

Cybersecurity CTF Competition Sharing

By: Mr. Chan Chun Wai

Recently, our students participated in the Capture The Flag (CTF) Cybersecurity Challenge organized by NuttyShell, the CTF team of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and proudly won third place in the Secondary School Division. As the teacher-in-charge, I am thrilled to have experienced this challenging and rewarding competition alongside the students.

CTF is a cybersecurity-themed competition where participants must apply their knowledge in cryptography, web security, digital forensics, and program analysis to find hidden "flags" and score points.

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence and digital technology, cybersecurity has become an indispensable part of our society. I hope our students will maintain their curiosity and thirst for knowledge in information technology, uphold proper cyber ethics and a strong sense of responsibility, applying what they have learned to safeguard information security.

01

Pre-Competition Workshops

Students attended workshops provided by the organizers during their free time to learn basic cybersecurity concepts and problem-solving skills, making full preparations for the competition.

02

Competition Day Challenges

Facing challenges in cryptography, web security, digital forensics, and program analysis — although most exceeded their existing knowledge, students bravely attempted them, continuously researching and exchanging ideas with one another.

03

Unforgettable Image Challenge

The most memorable challenge showed a large music arcade machine inside an indoor amusement center. After carefully analyzing the image, experimenting with various tools, and multiple failed attempts, they finally pinpointed the arcade machine's address in Australia out of thousands of possibilities.

04

Third Place — Secondary School Division

Through perseverance and teamwork, the students won third place in the Secondary School Division, gaining a profound understanding of problem-solving skills and collaboration, laying a strong foundation for their future in information technology.

Tradition Meets Technology

Second Runner-up in Chinese Medicine and AI Research

By: Mr. Singh Curtis

Participating Students: Xu Kai Wai, Zhao Kaitong, Li Yan Ting, Leung Tin Yan

With the rapid development of artificial intelligence in recent years, integrating traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) culture with new technology has become a key subject of public interest. Four of our students recently participated in a Chinese medicine research competition, achieving an outstanding result by winning the Second Runner-up with their research topic: "A Comparison of the Acceptance of AI Consultation Between Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Community Members in New Territories West". This is truly a remarkable achievement.

During the research process, the students had to design the questionnaire, contact CMPs and community members to collect data, and subsequently organize and analyze the findings. Although the process was repetitive and challenging, the students persevered to completion, demonstrating a rigorous and empirical attitude toward scientific research.

This competition allowed the students to step outside the framework of their textbooks, personally experience the joy of cross-disciplinary learning, and apply scientific methods to traditional cultural issues.

Research Findings

Community Members

Generally recognized the convenience brought by AI consultations, but still held reservations regarding diagnostic accuracy and privacy security.

TCM Practitioners (CMPs)

Highly concerned about the attribution of legal liability, reflecting that for AI to be truly integrated into clinical TCM application, the supporting regulatory systems still need to be perfected.

Research Recommendation

AI should be positioned as an auxiliary tool to help CMPs improve efficiency, rather than replacing the traditional TCM diagnostic process of "observation, auscultation and olfaction, inquiry, and pulse-taking" (望聞問切).

《Peter Pan》

Soaring High Together!

"Joy in Musical" Summer English Musical Concludes Successfully

Soaring High Together! "Joy in Musical" Summer English Musical Training Program Concludes Successfully: Tuenteenians, and Alumni Pass on the Legacy

This summer, Our School and Cultural Youth Development (CYD) co-organized the "Joy in Musical" Summer English Musical Training Program. The event was fully supported by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University Department of English Alumni Association and the Hong Kong Extra-curricular Activities Masters' Association (HKEAMA), and was fully sponsored by CYD, making it completely free of charge. The activity successfully attracted a large number of upper primary and junior secondary students from the Tuen Mun district, including five incoming Form 1 students who will join our school next year, making it particularly meaningful.

"Joyful Opening Ceremony" Kicks Off Three-Week Training

On July 17, a simple yet grand "Joyful Opening Ceremony" was held in our school library, officially kicking off the three-week intensive English and drama training program. Under the guidance of professional instructors, students learned vocalization, stage positioning, English lines, and dance from scratch, gradually building up their confidence.

Tuenteenian Provides Full Support, Demonstrating the Spirit of "Hand in Hand"

The smooth running of this event relied on the selfless dedication of our school's teachers, students, and alumni. During the training period, we specially invited our alumna, Clare Chan, to take the time to guide the young actors in their singing and acting skills. Furthermore, alumna Chow Tsz Yin, currently interning at Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK), also assisted with media relations.

What was even more touching was that students from our school's Musical team stayed with these young actors throughout the entire three weeks of training. The care from these older brothers and sisters made the younger children feel greatly reassured. In addition, special thanks go to teachers Mr. Enoch, Ms. Kwan Tsz Wun, and Mr. Chan Chun Wai, the Campus TV team, and the Courtesy Ambassadors for their immense assistance, which fully demonstrated the powerful unity of our Tuenteen community.

"Peter Pan" Showcase Attracts Media Coverage

After three weeks of rigorous rehearsal, the students finally presented their summer musical training results—the classic play Peter Pan—in the school hall of C.C.C. Mong Wong Far Yok Memorial Primary School. A group of young actors transformed into Peter Pan, pirates, and fairies, singing and dancing on stage with shining confidence. The showcase that day attracted over 100 guests and audience members, receiving thunderous applause from the crowd. The wonderful event also attracted Radio Television Hong Kong (RTHK) to come for filming and interviews. Principal Cheng and Wong Sum Yin from Class 4B also accepted an interview with RTHK, sharing their experiences and takeaways from organizing and assisting with this musical.

Student Reflection: 4B10 Wong Sum Yin

Participating in this musical as a backstage crew member, I learned a lot, such as the division of labor among various backstage roles. This helped me better understand how proper task allocation enables all staff to work efficiently and smoothly. Moreover, this experience made me deeply realize that a good backstage crew can help the actors tremendously, and is crucial for a successful performance. This experience has greatly boosted my self-confidence. It made me realize that although the public only sees the shining performers on stage, the silent dedication behind the scenes is equally valuable. It also inspired me to focus more on communication with team members and overall coordination in future learning and teamwork.

《Singin' in the Rain JR.》

《Singin' in the Rain JR.》

A Journey Beyond the Stage

Singin' in the Rain JR.

Singin' in the Rain JR.

This year's English Musical, Singin' in the Rain JR., was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our school year. While the audience enjoyed a spectacular performance filled with laughter, music and dazzling choreography, few realised the months of hard work that took place behind the scenes.

Preparations began as early as December. As rehearsals were held only once a week, we had just over three weeks after the examination period to bring together the acting, singing and dancing. Many students were also actively involved in other extracurricular activities, so weekend rehearsals became a regular part of our schedule. It was a demanding journey, but every rehearsal brought us one step closer to the final production.

This year's musical was one of our most ambitious productions to date. Students had to master English dialogue, vocal techniques and some of the most complex synchronised choreography and stage movements we have ever attempted. They also immersed themselves in the lively spirit of the Roaring Twenties, learning to perform with exaggerated expressions, energetic movements and bright smiles. To make the challenge even greater, all side characters took on two or more roles throughout the show. For many of our newer members, balancing multiple characters while memorising lines, songs and choreography required tremendous commitment, resilience and teamwork.

A successful musical would never be possible without the dedication of our backstage team. We are especially grateful to our Form Six students and alumni for their invaluable support. Michael Zhu (6A) helped create dynamic lighting that enhanced every scene, while Charlie Leung (6B), Tonia Chan (6C) and our 2024 graduate Ada Mo guided students in designing, refining and making the props. We would also like to thank the Campus TV team for generously giving their time and expertise during our technical rehearsals and performances. Their support allowed our cast to shine on stage with confidence.

When the final curtain fell and the audience erupted into applause, what stood out most was not just the performance itself, but how much every student had grown. Although some felt they could have done even better, they had certainly achieved something far more meaningful: greater confidence in speaking English, stronger time management skills, and the determination to persevere through an intensive rehearsal schedule.

Exploring the Vast Universe

Pursuing the Aerospace Dream

Our Young Astronaut

Huang Ho Sen

Send-off Ceremony: Encouragements from the Chief Secretary for Administration

In the face of the vast starry sky, humanity's exploration has never stopped. Huang Ho Sen from Class 4A, recommended by our school's Gifted Education Team, brought us exciting news this summer! Amidst fierce competition from over 200 secondary schools in Hong Kong, Ho Sen underwent rigorous trials, including a quiz competition, a pre-camp training, and an interview, eventually standing out as one of the 30 selected students representing Hong Kong in the "15th Young Astronaut Training Camp 2026". This is not only a testament to his personal hard work but also the pride of our school.

On July 16 this year, the training camp held a grand send-off and oath-taking ceremony at the Hong Kong Space Museum. The Chief Secretary for Administration, Mr. Chan Kwok Ki, officiated the ceremony and cheered for the 30 selected secondary students. In his speech, Mr. Chan specifically mentioned that with Hong Kong's first payload specialist, Dr. Lai Ka Ying, participating in the Shenzhou-23 manned spaceflight mission, Hong Kong now has its first astronaut. This is a historic moment that makes all Hong Kong citizens incredibly proud. The Chief Secretary encouraged Ho Sen and his fellow "young astronauts" to cherish this hard-earned opportunity, equip themselves diligently during the 9-day journey, and hoped they would represent Hong Kong in the nation's aerospace endeavors in various ways in the future, truly achieving "learning to succeed and giving back to society." With this solemn expectation and oath, Ho Sen officially embarked on his stellar journey.

A Report on 4A Huang Ho Sen Participating in the 15th Young Astronaut Training Camp

Activity Report: A 9-Day Aerospace Exploration Journey

The 9-day training camp was a rare and valuable learning journey. The packed and inspiring itinerary led the students deep into the heart of the nation's aerospace technology:

The Shock of Frontier Technology - Beijing Station:

  • In the first few days, Ho Sen and other camp members visited the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the headquarters of the National Astronomical Observatories in Beijing, getting up close with the Chang'e Operation and Control Hall and the Space Debris Monitoring and Application Center. On the third day, the members entered the Astronaut Center of China, experiencing aerospace medical projects such as the space kitchen and intravehicular spacesuit operations. The organizers also specially arranged an "Astronaut Lecture" on the evening of the third day, allowing students to have an in-depth exchange with top astronauts and understand the hardships behind space missions. Afterward, they travelled to the Xinglong Observatory, the largest optical observatory in Asia, witnessing the massive 2.16-meter reflecting telescope and conducting an unforgettable stargazing activity at night.

Miracles Deep in the Desert - Inner Mongolia & Jiuquan Station:

  • As the journey progressed, Ho Sen and the team arrived at the Dongfeng Aerospace City in Inner Mongolia on the evening of the fifth day. On the sixth day, they officially stepped into the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center deep in the desert. On this vast Gobi Desert that witnessed the rise of China's aerospace industry, the camp members paid their respects at the Dongfeng Revolutionary Martyrs' Cemetery and personally visited the Dongfanghong Launch Tower and the Manned Spaceflight Launch Tower (Wentian Pavilion), feeling the great spirit of selfless dedication from generations of aerospace personnel.

The Mystery of Time and Power - Xi'an Station:

  • In the final stage of the trip, they arrived in Xi'an. The students visited the National Time Service Center (Time Science Museum) and the rocket engine development and production base of the Sixth Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology Corporation (CASC), gaining a comprehensive understanding of the key technologies that propel the nation's rockets into space.

Activity Reflection

This training camp was not just a superficial tour but a profound scientific baptism. By visiting multiple national highly-classified bases that are normally closed to the public, the students witnessed parameters from textbooks transform into real equipment right before their eyes. The various challenges and exchanges during the trip cultivated their scientific research spirit of "daring to question and daring to ask," and also gave these Hong Kong youths a deeper sense of national pride in the rapid development of the country's aerospace technology.

Personal Thoughts and Inspirations from Huang Ho Sen

"The success of each manned space mission comes from the day-after-day perseverance of countless scientific researchers."

During these few days in the Young Astronaut Training Camp, travelling all the way from Beijing to the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center deep in the desert and personally walking into multiple aerospace research bases, I have gained a completely different understanding of China's aerospace industry.

Personal Thoughts and Inspirations from Huang Ho Sen

The Shock and Inspiration of the Beijing Station
In Beijing, we walked into the Technology and Engineering Center for Space Utilization of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and entered the Tiangong Space Station control hall. There, I saw with my own eyes the real-time orbit footage of the space station featuring Dr. Lai Ka Ying, the first payload specialist from the Hong Kong SAR! Watching the scrolling and jumping status parameters of the space station on the screen and the focused look of the scientific researchers on site, the space station from my textbooks suddenly became a real, living existence.

At the Chang'e lunar probe remote control center of the National Astronomical Observatories, we had the opportunity to communicate face-to-face with engineers from the ground control center. The dialogue with them made me deeply feel that aerospace science is full of unknowns and requires a spirit of daring to question and ask.

In addition, during the camp, Gui Haichao (桂海潮), China's first payload specialist, gave us a lecture of over an hour. Originally a university professor and scientific researcher, he overcame various physiological challenges for his dream of spaceflight. I raised the questions that had been accumulating in my mind for a long time, and his answers from a scientific perspective inspired me deeply, making me realize: The essence of an astronaut's job is simply continuing scientific research in a space environment. This exchange, which integrated solid scientific research literacy with the courage and resilience of aerospace, has been a great enlightenment for me as I wish to pursue a path in scientific research in the future.

In the past, my impression of aerospace mostly came from news and textbooks. After passing through three rounds of grueling selection to join this rare and precious journey, I now truly understand that the success of each manned space mission lies in the day-after-day perseverance of countless researchers. As a youth of the new generation, I will keep what I saw and felt this time in my heart, maintain my curiosity about the universe, accumulate knowledge steadfastly, and continue moving forward with passion!

A Decade of Rope Skipping

Perseverance and Never Giving Up

Li Ka Hei

By: Class 5D, Li Ka Hei

AS Watson Group 185th Anniversary HK Outstanding Student Sports Awards — Winner

I have experienced success, and I have experienced failure, but I have never thought of giving up.

I am Li Ka Hei, a Secondary 5 student at Tuen Mun Catholic Secondary School and a competitive rope skipper. This year, I am deeply honoured to have received the A.S. Watson Group 185th Anniversary HK Outstanding Student Sports Awards. This accolade holds great significance for me; it is not only a reaffirmation of my efforts, but also an important testament to my rope skipping journey over the past decade.

Looking back on these ten years, my athletic path has been filled with countless ups and downs — from the joy of triumph to the bitterness of defeat. When I was first introduced to rope skipping, I treated it merely as an extracurricular hobby, participating solely to stay fit and healthy. However, as I entered upper primary school, I gradually developed a deep passion for the sport. In Primary 5, I won my first championship in an age-group competition. That trophy acted as a booster shot, cementing my dream of one day wearing the Hong Kong team jersey to bring glory to our city.

This pursuit of my dream was by no means smooth sailing. It was not until Secondary 3 that I finally had my first opportunity to represent the Hong Kong team, traveling to Japan to compete in the Asian Rope Skipping Championships, where I took on both individual and team events. Although I left with some regret due to a lack of experience and a less-than-ideal performance on the court, I did not lose heart. Instead, I transformed that setback into the driving force to keep pushing forward.

To date, I have represented Hong Kong in international competitions three times, traveling to Japan and South Korea. Perhaps not every competition ends in the most perfect way, but every time I step onto the international stage, I not only gain invaluable practical experience, but also truly relish those passionate moments of showcasing my best self.

Receiving the HK Outstanding Student Sports Award will serve as a fresh motivation propelling me further ahead. I firmly believe that in the days to come, I will be able to surpass myself and rise to any challenge!

A Journey of Cultural Discovery & Remote Classroom

A Sister-School Exchange

A Sister-School Exchange

During the Easter holidays in early April, 30 students from our school, accompanied by the Principal and teachers (a group of 34 in total), travelled to Shandong Province, a land rich in history and culture, for a four-day "Shandong Cultural Experience and Sister-School Exchange Tour."

This was more than a journey across a thousand miles; it was also a profound dialogue with history and the heart. Through on-site visits and exchanges with our sister school, students broadened their historical horizons, deepened their sense of national identity, and strengthened their cultural confidence through first-hand experience.

Jinan — The "Spring City"

At night, Daming Lake glittered with lights, reflections on the water blending with the illuminated lakeside. Kuanhouli Old Street brought the past and present into perfect harmony.

Zaozhuang — Railway Guerrilla Force Scenic Area

Students seemed to step back into a time of war, gaining a deeper appreciation of the perseverance and courage of those who defended their homeland.

Taierzhuang — Battle Memorial Hall

Worn uniforms, damaged weapons, and bullet holes on the walls spoke powerfully of the price of peace — a deep reflection on life: to treasure peace and resolve hatred with love.

Taierzhuang Ancient City

A "living ancient canal" with eight architectural styles and the Grand Canal running through it — a moving reminder of the resilience and rebirth of the Chinese nation.

Heartfelt Connections: Building a Shared Future for Shandong and Hong Kong Youth

The highlight of the trip was undoubtedly our visit to our sister school, Zaozhuang Taierzhuang Ancient City School. We were warmly received by Vice-Principal Zhang, the teachers, and students, and deeply moved by Shandong's renowned hospitality.

Under the theme "Same Roots, Same Kin, A New Future We Begin", the two schools held a sharing session in which students from both places spoke openly about school life and personal growth. Their conversations sparked ideas, strengthened understanding, and quickly brought the two groups closer together, reflecting the educational connection between Shandong and Hong Kong.

The sister school's thoughtful integration of revolutionary spirit, national education, and cultural heritage preservation was impressive and inspiring — offering our teachers and students a truly valuable learning experience.

Key Activities at the Sister School

Sharing Session

Students from both schools spoke openly about school life and personal growth, sparking ideas and strengthening mutual understanding.

Intangible Cultural Heritage

Students tried their hand at "kaipian rubbing" — experiencing the depth and artistry of traditional craftsmanship surrounded by the scent of ink.

Zhao-style Pyrography

With guidance from local students, our students experienced the precision of skilled brushwork in this immersive traditional craft session.

Student Reflections: Growth and Friendship

Our students returned home with full hearts and new perspectives. Here, they share what this exchange journey meant to them — in their own words.

3B

Wong Sze Kiu

"The visit to Taierzhuang Ancient City School in Shandong left a deep impression on me. I found the local students to be very hardworking and focused, and their campus culture strongly reflected the inheritance of traditional culture. This was quite different from the lively, diverse, faith-based, and caring atmosphere of Tuen Mun Catholic Secondary School. While making woodblock prints with local students, they patiently taught me how to carve and apply colour, and also shared their local history and culture with us. The moments when we helped one another and created something together were the most memorable for me. I felt the sincerity and warmth of students from both places. Throughout the exchange, I also made an effort to appreciate the strengths of mainland students, admiring their seriousness, creativity, and friendliness. This visit not only gave me friendship, but also taught me to respect differences and learn from one another."

4A

Zhao Kaitong

"After visiting the war memorial sites, I truly understood the sacrifices made by the martyrs to defend our country. Their sacrifice was so great that it must be remembered forever by future generations. The victory at Taierzhuang reminds us that the peaceful life we enjoy today was hard-won, and highlights the importance of world peace. We should be grateful for all that we have and love our country and our people. Having learned about the sacrifices made for peace, we must cherish our lives and remain thankful. By obeying the law, respecting the law, following the Party, and always loving our country, we honour those who came before us."

4C

Tsang Hoi Man

"Campus culture in Shandong places great emphasis on revolutionary spirit and the inheritance of traditional culture. Their curriculum also incorporates practical learning through intangible cultural heritage experiences and national education. Our school, on the other hand, makes good use of technology to support learning and places strong emphasis on diverse development and social adaptability. The two education systems each have their own strengths and can learn from each other. The most memorable moment for me was interacting with local students while learning pyrography. They patiently taught me how to hold the brush, mix colours, and understand the cultural meaning behind the traditional techniques, and they kept correcting my strokes with great care. Their enthusiasm and seriousness helped me truly feel the charm of traditional culture and the sincerity of friendship between students from both places. It became the warmest memory of this exchange."

5D

Chung Nga Sze

"The Victory of Taierzhuang was one of the most important battles in the War of Resistance, crushing the enemy's arrogance and greatly boosting the nation's morale. Behind that victory were countless soldiers fighting bravely and the united efforts of the whole country. The prosperity, stability, and comfortable lives we enjoy today are never to be taken for granted; they were built on the sacrifices of those before us and the efforts of those who came after. Once we understand the heavy price paid for peace, we can better appreciate how valuable our food, clothing, education, and freedom really are. We should treasure learning resources, care for the people and environment around us, help others, and pass on the warmth of history. Keeping gratitude in our hearts and putting it into action is the best way to respond to the martyrs, and the truest form of return in ordinary life."

Sister School Remote Classroom 2026: Continuing the Bond Online

Following the April physical trip to Shandong, the bond between the two schools continued to grow online. On May 20th, we held our second exchange activity of this academic year!

The theme this time was an online exchange exploring the unique cultures of both places. Teachers and students from both schools thoroughly enjoyed the lesson, perfectly blending learning with cultural exchange.

🏮 Taierzhuang: Intangible Heritage Rubbing

Teachers from Taierzhuang Ancient City School conducted a remote lesson on intangible cultural heritage — a traditional rubbing experience, connecting students to the living legacy of Chinese craftsmanship.

🍵 Hong Kong: Cha Chaan Teng Culture

In return, we shared Hong Kong's unique dining culture, including our beloved traditional Cha Chaan Teng — a cornerstone of Hong Kong's everyday life and identity.

Whether through on-site visits or virtual interactions, this exchange was not a superficial sightseeing trip, but a meaningful journey of friendship that deepened cultural understanding and mutual appreciation. May the students of Shandong and Hong Kong grow together as close friends, walking side by side on the path of truth and service.

"Same Root, Same Heart" – Guangzhou Western Architecture & Culture Exploration Tour

📅 Tour Dates

July 8th – 9th

👨‍🎓 Participants

32 Junior Secondary Students

Our school's Civic Education Committee, Chinese History Department, and Faith Formation Committee led 32 junior secondary students on a two-day field trip to Guangzhou. This itinerary actively implemented patriotic education and organically integrated Catholic elements with national education.

The exploration activity was highly fruitful. It not only successfully broadened the students' historical horizons, guiding them to understand the national conditions and the history of Catholicism in the country from multiple perspectives, but also further deepened the students' concept of the nation, effectively enhancing their national identity and awareness of safeguarding cultural security.

Student Reflections

Student Reflection 1

"I personally benefited a lot from this visit. Not only did I get to visit many scenic spots and learn knowledge that cannot be learned ordinarily, but I also deepened my interest in Chinese History, strengthened my national identity, and felt proud to be a member of the nation. In addition, I was deeply moved because we encountered heavy rain during the trip, and teachers and students helped each other, showing a spirit of mutual assistance and love, for which I am very grateful."

Student Reflection 2

"Although the Sacred Heart Cathedral is a Western building, it cleverly integrates floor tiles, statues, seating, Chinese characters, and wooden carved folding screens with Chinese characteristics. First, this reflects the inclusiveness of Chinese culture, representing that the mainstream Chinese culture has not been replaced, thus safeguarding cultural security. Second, when people see that a Western church has designs with Chinese cultural elements, it can increase national identity and foster a conscious effort to protect the country."

Tuen Mun District

Civic Education Youth Leader

Tuen Mun District Civic Education Youth Leader Student

Wu Sin Nga (2D) was recommended by our school and successfully selected for the "2025-2026 'Leadership Seedling' Tuen Mun District Civic Education Youth Leadership Training Scheme", co-organized by the Tuen Mun District Office and the Tuen Mun District Youth Development and Civic Education Committee. Having completed the 5-month training, Sin Nga has benefited remarkably from the programme.

Sin Nga's Reflections

"Participating in the Mock District Council was a significant milestone in my personal growth. During the activity, I had to organize my arguments and respond to inquiries within a limited time, while trying to express myself rationally and listen to dissenting views. It was a process filled with challenges. Yet, this experience has strengthened my determination to pursue truth and maintain independent thinking amidst diverse voices; to uphold justice and stand by the standards of right and wrong during discussions; and to strive to practice love, viewing different perspectives with tolerance and empathy. As a Tuenteenian, I am willing to care about community affairs with a sense of responsibility and demonstrate youth commitment through concrete actions."

The leadership scheme featured:

  • Understanding the improved district governance and the reshaped functions and work of the District Councils
  • Visiting the Justice Place to exchange views with representatives from the Department of Justice to deepen the sense of mission towards correct concepts of the rule of law
  • Submitting and discussing a paper in a "Mock District Council" meeting

Hong Kong Model Legislative Council 2025-26

Lin Tsz Ching and Dai Wenjie

Selected for the Hong Kong Model Legislative Council 2025-26

Lin Tsz Ching and Dai Wenjie Selected for the Hong Kong Model Legislative Council 2025-26

Two Constitution and Basic Law Student Campus Ambassadors successfully earned their spots in the "Hong Kong Model Legislative Council 2025-26" organized by the Hong Kong Young Leaders Development Association. They completed three training sessions related to Hong Kong's political system, greatly enhancing their knowledge and understanding of the Basic Law, "One Country, Two Systems," and the Legislative Council.

Basic Law, One Country, Two Systems & Legislative Council Workshop

A deep dive into the core principles of the Basic Law and the functional structure of the Legislative Council.

Training Day Camp

Collaborated and exchanged ideas with students from different schools, developing teamwork and leadership skills.

Visit to the Legislative Council Complex & Dialogue with a Member

Toured the Legislative Council Complex in person and conversed with a sitting Legislative Council Member about daily duties.

Mock Legislative Council Meeting

Researched policy issues, discussed feasibility, and participated in a simulated legislative debate to experience the legislative process firsthand.

Students' Reflections on Their Growth After the Activities

Lin Tsz Ching

This activity gave me a much clearer understanding of the legislative process. We were fully immersed in the experience and seriously conducted a mock legislation. Before we started, our group researched the designated policy, discussed the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposal, and improved on our shortcomings. This ample preparation made us more confident during the debate session, and presenting persuasive arguments also gave me a greater sense of achievement. However, when facing challenges from other students, I had to react, adjust, and formulate rebuttals in a short amount of time, which allowed me to experience the thrill of debating. In addition, what left the deepest impression on me during this event was building friendships. This activity was not only about mock legislation but also included a day camp. Completing teamwork challenges with unfamiliar students in the same group brought joy and new friendships, making the experience exceptionally meaningful.

Dai Wenjie

I benefited a lot from this Model Legislative Council journey. During this event, not only did I attend seminars on the history and development of the Legislative Council—which allowed me to learn more about the legislature outside the classroom—but I also visited the Legislative Council Complex and conversed with the current Legislative Council Member, Hon Steven Ho Chun-yin. Through this, I learned about the reasons behind his decision to become a lawmaker and the daily routine duties of the Legislative Council. Afterwards, I collaborated with participants from different schools to successfully amend issues and participate in a mock Legislative Council meeting. From this, I profoundly experienced the responsibilities borne by the Legislative Council, as well as the hard work and difficulties behind it.

80th Anniversary of the Victory of the Anti-Japanese War

National Education Movie Screening

"The Eight Hundred"

The activity was co-organized by the History Panel, Chinese History Panel, and Civic Education Committee. Through the movie screening, students were guided to reflect on:

  • The significance of the responsibility, commitment, and heroic spirit of the "Eight Hundred Heroes" in today's society
  • The values embodied by their actions (such as patriotism, responsibility, unity, etc.)
  • How we can practice the spirit of "commitment" and "serving the country and society" in our daily lives during peacetime

The "Eight Hundred Heroes" bore the responsibility for the nation's survival and demonstrated their commitment to the people. A hero is never defined by the performance of just one person; rather, it is the spirit of a group taking on the heavy responsibilities of the country and the nation. I believe the significance of this collective heroic spirit in today's society is to never forget the past, and to carry forward the souls of our predecessors to build a better country and protect our own nation.

The students' reflections were profoundly earnest. For example:

Student Reflection 1: I deeply felt the sacrificial spirit of the warriors. Their brave defense of the country made me realize that our stability today is hard-won. I am grateful to them for losing their lives to defend our country and our safety.

Student Reflection 2: I found this story incredibly moving because they would rather sacrifice themselves to guard the warehouse successfully. This stands as a testament to the spirit of unity between the Chinese people and the soldiers, who took up the responsibility of protecting the people. Even though they numbered only a few hundred, what they were guarding behind them were the families and lives of countless people.

Student Reflection 3: In times of peace, I believe that "patriotism" is our responsibility as citizens. This is not only a form of respect for the soldiers but also the foundation for a stable and prosperous life in the future. Furthermore, we should learn from the commitment of our predecessors; they sacrificed many lives, blood, and sweat to bring us our current prosperous life. As members of the nation, we should shoulder the responsibility of serving society, fulfill our fundamental duties, and strive to be good students.

37th Speech Day

Fear Not the Winding Path Ahead, Live a Fruitful Life

On May 22, 2026, Tuen Mun Catholic Secondary School held its 37th Speech Day. It was a day filled with gratitude and joy. Witnessed by teachers, parents, and guests, the Form 6 graduates marked a perfect end to their secondary school stage, ready to embark on a new milestone in their lives.

For this year's Speech Day, the school was deeply honored to invite an outstanding alumnus, Mr. Chan Kin Chung John, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Reitar Logtech Group, as the Guest of Honor. Mr. Chan is also the Founder of Reitar Logtech Group, Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Star Capital Group, Founder and Executive Director of Comboxx, as well as the former Chairman and Non-Executive Director of Janco Holdings Limited. On the day of the ceremony, Mr. Chan attended with his wife and daughter to witness this important moment for his junior schoolmates, creating a heartwarming scene.

37th Speech Day Successfully Held

Words of Encouragement from the Guest of Honor: Fear Not the Winding Path, Appreciate the Scenery Along the Way

In his speech, titled "From TMCSS to NASDAQ: The Beauty of the Winding Path," Mr. Chan shared his life journey, which was full of twists and turns yet exceptionally wonderful. He frankly admitted that he only scored 7 points in his HKCEE, but this setback became a turning point for him to strive hard. He eventually found his passion in the field of economics and even led his company to be listed on the NASDAQ in the United States. He encouraged the graduates with these words: "We cannot choose the starting line of our lives, but how we walk this path is entirely our choice. Do not be afraid of winding roads, because the more winding the road, the more beautiful the scenery; the more challenges you face, the more fascinating the stories you will be able to tell in the future." He encouraged students to walk their own paths and focus on becoming the best version of themselves.

Message from the School Supervisor: Embrace Great Love and Be a Blessing to Others

In his welcoming remarks, the School Supervisor, Dr. Chan Chun Kwong Roger, quoted the astronaut Victor Glover from the Artemis II lunar mission: "The Earth viewed from space is a human family, precious and united." Dr. Chan used this to advise graduates that as they step into society, they should carry this macro perspective, transcend their differences, and act with love and courage, so that their lives can become a blessing to others, working together to build a world that reflects harmony and grace.

Reminder from the Principal: The Brilliance of Humanity Shines Brighter in the AI Era

In her speech, Principal Ms. Cheng Suk Wah specifically addressed the attitude students should hold in an era where Artificial Intelligence is increasingly prevalent. She reminded the graduates: "Technological innovation must be guided by wisdom, responsibility, and care for others. In the AI era, certain human abilities have become even more precious. We must learn to think deeply, read carefully, and make judgments with wisdom." Principal Cheng encouraged students that while confidently utilizing technology, they must never allow it to undermine their own freedom, integrity, and humanity. She also hoped that everyone would continue to learn eagerly and serve willingly with courage and humility.

Special Acknowledgements: General Office Staff, Janitorial Staff, Courtesy Ambassadors, and the Campus TV Team

Behind a perfect ceremony lies a group of unsung heroes working diligently behind the scenes. Here, Tuen Teens would like to express special thanks to the General Office staff, the janitorial staff, the Courtesy Ambassadors, and the Campus TV team. Thank you to the General Office staff and janitorial staff for their meticulous planning, arrangements, and venue preparation behind the scenes; thank you to the Courtesy Ambassadors for receiving every guest with a friendly, welcoming, and professional attitude, demonstrating the elegant demeanor of TMCSS students; lastly, thank you to the Campus TV team for shuttling through every corner of the venue to capture one precious and touching moment after another for the graduates and guests.
